Olympia
Olympia is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. The ancient Olympic Games were organized right there. The only prize to the Olympic winners was an olive branch and a great honor. Next to the athletic installations an entire sanctuary, dedicated to god Zeus, was constructed. The Ancient Stadium of Olympia was a holy place for Greeks. It was originally constructed in a way that spectators could see the events from the banks of Mount Cronion, but was gradually moved further east. Do not miss the opportunity to visit the Archaeological Museum, which is considered to be one of the best museums in Greece. It host some of the most spectacular Classical and Roman sculptures in the country such as the statues of Hermes of Praxiteles and of Nike Paionios.
